Dr Theshenthree Govender

Dr Govender is a psychiatrist that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of psychiatric illnesses. She completed her MBCHB at the Medical University of South Africa in 1999 before going on to complete her post-graduate degree in psychiatry via the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine.

Dr Govender initiated her training in psychiatry at Addington Hospital in 2003. In 2006, she obtained her specialist degree from the Colleges of Medicines South Africa. Dr Govender remained at the King Edward Hospital Department of Psychiatry from 2007 to 2008 and practised as a specialist psychiatrist. She has been a specialist psychiatrist in private practice from 2009 and runs her specialist practice from Life Entabeni Hospital and Lenmed Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre.

Dr Shen Govender believes in a holistic collaborative approach to the management of various psychiatric disorders. Mental health struggles such as schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, childhood mental health issues and bipolar mood disorders are most prevalent. A holistic approach includes pharmacological management, psychotherapy and adjunctive therapy addressing lifestyle changes.

Dr Govender is a fellow of the Colleges of Medicine South Africa (Psychiatry) and a former lecturer for the department of psychiatry at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine (UKZN). Dr Govender is also affiliated with the South African Society of Psychiatrists, Psych MG, KZN Specialist Network and Lenmed Obesity Clinic.
